Top 10 Valentine’s Day Gifts 2021

Just because you waited until the last minute to get your partner/SO a Valentine’s Day gift, doesn’t mean it can’t be epic. With Valentine’s Day just around the corner ( hello! tomorrow?), we wanted to share out top 10 Valentine’s Day gifts for you last-minute cupids.

1. For the Oenophilia (wine-loving) Valentine
There is no shortage of amazing wineries here in Central Otago. Why not take your valentine for a tasting at a cellar door & then take a bottle or two home to enjoy later. A few of our local Wanaka favourites are Rippon & Maude. Contact us for other recommendations around the Cromwell, Bannockburn & Gibbston Valley area. For those of you who cannot visit wineries in person right now, most wineries have membership clubs if your Valentine loves a certain winery or just order a bottle or two direct from their website.

Bonus Tip: if you are newly engaged, book in the amazing Rippon Hall & Aspiring Catering team for your wedding day.

2. For the Newly Engaged Valentine
A handcrafted ring dish that you can later have engaged with your initials or anniversary date is a thoughtful and practical gift. We love checking with your local potters, but if you are short on time, you can always order online.

3. For the Foodie Valentine
For such a small town, Wanaka sure packs a punch when it comes to great places to enjoy a delicious dinner. However, there is one place that we come back to time & time again and that is Kika. Looking to spice it up in the kitchen at home? Purchase a cookbook for your Valentine & prepare a meal together; we love the Francesca’s Italian Kitchen cookbook. For those of you who are not as lucky as we are in NZ and can’t dine out, order take away or a gift card from your favourite restaurant to enjoy when you are able to do so safely.

Bonus Tip: Kika now takes bookings for groups of all sizes; book in now for a delicious V-day meal, Romeo.

4. For the Netflix & Chill Valentine
The Netflix& Chill date night trend doesn’t seem to be slowing down any time soon. And why not!? It’s fun, cosy, no judgements here! Snag some Merino loungewear from Perriam, put on some popcorn & cue up her favourite rom-com for a no-fuss Valentine’s day.

5. For the Sweet Tooth Valentine
For the sweet tooth in your life, get in touch with our girl Brittany from White Rabbit Cakes. You can thank us later. Whether it’s her cake truffles (pops), cupcakes, donuts or macaroons, you quite simply cannot go wrong. If you’ve left it a little too late for Britt to get you in tomorrow, don’t fret, order to indulge next week & pop into Patagonia Chocolates in Wanaka for some chocolate delights to tie you over.

6. For the Cocktail-Loving Valentine
Start off your arvo with a tour & tasting with the team at Cardrona Distillery. Then head back to town for the best cocktails & Sunday session in town at Cork Bar.

7. For the Coffee Loving Valentine
While your Valentine is still in bed, pop down to the legendary Pembroke Patisserie to collect some almond croissants & flat whites and create a nice spread to surprise them with breakfast in bed. If you are looking to stay in bed (or at least home) grab the Love you a Latte gift box from our friends at White Rabbit Cakes & Double Black or the Easy Like Sunday Morning box from The Village Gift.

8. For the Beer-Loving Valentine
What better way to show some love to your beer-loving Valentine than to visit a local craft brewery? Two of our local Wanaka favourites are Rhyme & Reason and B. Social from the B.Effect team. Not keen for a night out, grab a growler of one of the Ground Up beers to enjoy at home.

9. For the Adventure-Loving Valentine
We are so lucky to live in the adventure capital of the world and be in a position where we can get out & enjoy it. Take advantage of this good fortune and treat yourself & your Valentine to a Bungy, skydive, get higher with Wildwire Wanaka or ride the scenery at Bike Glendhu. If you are looking for a little more low-key adventure, why not take your Valentine on a hike accompanied by a box from the lovely team at The Platter Share. Wherever you go, do it safely, support local, and have an adventure!!

Bonus Tip: Don’t forget to pack a wee sarong or blanket to enjoy your picnic at the top. Extra points if you also remember some wine & eco-wine glasses.

Double Bonus Tip: If you are a newly engaged couple, schedule into the epic Glendhu Station to book your wedding there with the Aspiring Catering Team.

Bonus Tip: The team at Morsel Honest Food Co. are now back at Rhyme & Reason providing their culinary delights along with Remarkably Funny for the Love & Laugh stand-up comedy show tonight (13th February)

10. For the Artisan Goods Loving Valentine
Grab them some goodies from The Kiwi Artisan Co. They curate the finest small-batch artisan goods for food lovers nationwide, supporting and celebrating local independent producers all over the country. Another favourite is the Platterday Night’s Alight from team at The Village Gift.

For the Insta Loving Valentine
Take your Instagram loving Valentine to a place where she can get her favourite shot at Wanaka Lavender Farm. After enjoying time on the gorgeous grouds, cool down with lavender ice cream, then ramp up the romance by taking home the lavender bath oil & lavender massage oil.
